The Department of Electrical Engineering,
University of South Florida, Tampa,
Florida, invites
applications for three tenure track, Assistant/Associate Professor level
positions scheduled to start in 2005.
The Department of Electrical Engineering has 23 faculty members with significant active research that includes topics in communications, wireless and microwave systems, power electronics, controls, materials and microelectronics.
The new positions have been established for individuals who have interest in growing College and University-wide research thrust areas such as bioengineering, nanotechnology, information and communications technology, and energy systems. Applications from candidates particularly interested in linking electrical engineering with problems in the biological or medical sciences are strongly encouraged. A doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
Successful candidates must demonstrate the potential to independently pursue and develop a strong research program; the ability to establish collaborative links within the department, College of Engineering , and other relevant units of the university will be considered an asset. Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and be prepared to teach and develop electrical engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as supervise graduate students.
The College of Engineering is committed to providing strong, fundamental engineering education and world class multi-disciplinary research. It is home to several centers including the Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing Research Center (NNRC) and the Clean Energy Research Center (CERC).
Support for interdisciplinary research is also available through the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The, University of South Florida is one of the 20 largest universities in the United States; it is classified as a "Doctoral/Research University - Extensive", by The Carnegie Foundation, and in 2002-2003 attracted over $250 million in sponsored research contracts and grants.
USF is home to one of the state's major medical schools and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. A new nanotechnology facility, Nanotech I, and expansion of the university's Technology Center will add an additional 245,000 square feet of research and technology development space when completed.
