What is the Davis Islands Research Initiative: A shared Community Concern?

It is a collaborative effort between the Davis Islands Civic Association, the University of South Florida and Florida's Department of Community Affairs. The purpose of this research project is to determine and prove the effectiveness of converting exisitng overhead utility facilities - specifically electric, cable and telephone - to an underground system. This will be accomplished through original research, research by others and evaluation work.

What does it mean to you?

This project will potentially mean a positive and dramatic improvement to our quality of life, disaster preparedness and recovery capability. Not only does it address the co-location of specific utilities, but also the methods by which other communities can fund and implement conversion and co-location projects of their own.
